An Economical way of Treating Alcohol Stillage Wastes

Abstract
The research study was conducted to determine the most economical way of treating alcohol stillage waste using lab-scale anaerobic filters.
Performance data derived from varying HRT and influent COD revealed that over 94% of COD and 98% of BOD could be removed when treating supernatant of the settled alcohol stillage by anaerobic filter operated at HRT of 5 days. Consequently, the anaerobic filter process has been proven to be a powerful way of treating alcohol stillage wastes provided that solids in the stillage, it might be recommended that the solids be removed first and then treat the supernatant using anaerobic filter and activaed sludge system operated in series. Supplementary research study us recommended concerning solids and resisdual COD removal.
